Summertime means the kids are home, days are longer, and adventures are to be had! We are just as excited as you to stay up late around the fire, or to spend the long hot days by the pool, we just want to make sure everyone is keeping up with their oral hygiene. We know brushing and flossing may not be at the top of your “Summer To-Do” list, but it should be on there!
Dr. Walter Neuhaus and Dr. Karl Neuhaus offer some advice on keeping your family’s teeth healthy while you enjoy the wonders of summertime fun.
Brush & Floss No Matter What
In the summer your family’s routines are often interrupted. Whether you are on a tropical vacation or spending your summer building forts in the backyard, be sure that each of your family members is brushing and flossing at least twice a day. We recommend making a chart to keep track, and to ensure your children brush and floss even when they are waking up later. Brushing and flossing are the best ways to prevent cavities and gum disease.
Monitor Sugar Intake
It is easy to indulge in summertime sweets like ice cream, soda, and fruity cocktails. Be sure you are watching how much sugar you are taking in each day. It is okay to enjoy a treat once in a while but try to brush immediately after. Limiting your sugar intake can prevent weight gain and tooth decay.
