Better Brushing Habits

Proper Toothbrush Storage

  • Store your toothbrush bristle side up and in the open air- your brush needs to be able to dry out in between uses to avoid bacteria build up
  • If you live with other people, be sure to keep the head of your toothbrush from touching others to avoid the spread of germs
  • Keep your toothbrushes at least 6ft away from the toilet to avoid airborne particles landing on your brush.

Brush For 2 Whole Minutes.

  • Play your favorite song and hum along as your brush for two solid minutes. You can also set an alarm to be sure you are brushing for two minutes.
  • Brushing for less than two minutes can leave behind unwanted bacteria, tartar, plaque and food debris.
  • Most people only brush for 45 seconds. That is not even half the recommended time!

Wait 30 Minutes to Brush.

  • Just like swimming, after you eat, wait 30 minutes before brushing.
  • Acid found in food and beverages can wear away at the enamel on your teeth making them susceptible to sensitivity or tooth decay.
  • Drink a glass of water or chew ADA approved sugar free gum after eating for fresher breath.
