Dental implants are a secure, natural-looking option to replace missing teeth. Many patients prefer implants to other prosthetics because they look and feel just like natural teeth. Dental implants can renew your appearance, rejuvenate your oral health, and return your ability to eat, laugh, and smile with confidence.
Amherst NY dentist, Dr. Walter Neuhaus, has been placing dental implants for over 20 years with excellent long term success. He is an Associate Fellow of the American Academy of Implant Dentistry, the first organization in the world to be dedicated towards the advancement of dental implants. He was awarded this honor in 2005, after passing a rigorous set of written and oral examinations and case presentations. Dr. Neuhaus is also a peer reviewer for the Journal of Oral Implantology.
Replacing missing teeth is not just about aesthetics, it is about maintaining oral health and overall quality of life. Dental implants don't just replace teeth, they restore full chewing function, allowing you to eat the foods you enjoy, speak comfortably and smile with confidence.

What is a dental implant?
A dental implant is a three part restoration that is used to replace a missing tooth. The first part is a the actual implant, a small titanium screw like device that fuses with the jawbone. The abutment is the piece that connects to the implant and protrudes from the gum line to attach the restoration. The third component of the dental implant is the crown which restores both the chewing function and aesthetics to the smile.

The Dental Implant Process
Creekside Dentistry is one of the few dentists in Amherst New York to offer complete treatment for dental implants in one office. This is possible in our dentist office because of the training and experience of Dr. Walter Neuhaus who has been practicing implant dentistry for more than 20 years.
The process for dental implants generally takes place in a few visits over a period of 4 to 9 months.
If necessary, Dr. Neuhaus will remove any teeth and then surgically place the dental implant into the jawbone.
Osseointegration, or the process by which the implant fuses to the bone generally takes three to six months.
For most patients, a temporary crown or restoration will be placed on the implant during the healing process to replace lost aesthetics and function.
Once the healing process is complete, Dr. Neuhaus will uncover the implant and attach an abutment.
The replacement tooth or teeth will be attached to the abutment for a permanent restoration.
In the case of a single missing tooth, Dr. Neuhaus will use a dental crown. For two or more missing teeth, the dentist may use a dental bridge or denture.
